Cirque du Soleil has nothing on momtrepenuers!

One of the biggest questions I get is “how do I have time to do everything I do?”  As a momtrepenuer I take great pride in my ability to be a professional of this industry while not sacrificing my family life.  But it wasn’t always that way… I have failed miserably multiple times at trying to be superwoman and doing everything 100% all the time.

What I learned was that I could have it all… I didn’t need to sacrifice my family or my business if I was willing to learn some skills and listen to tips from those that did find their success.  What I realized is balance was key. Balance in all my activities…. if I lean too much towards my business, I risk my family feeling left out. If I lean too much towards my family, I risk my business not moving forward.

So I’m going to post a few times on the different skills that I learned and continue to learn that have helped me find balance.

So let me ask you? What are some of the challenges you face?

Here are some tips to get you started….

  1. It is okay to say NO. Yes, everyone once in a while, say no. I find I tend to be a big people pleaser. While I want to say YES as much as possible, it was easy to over-commit myself and then have to go back and apologize for not following through the way I wanted or intended. Say NO to tasks you really don’t feel in your heart. It will save you embarrassment and your integrity.
  2. There is a big difference between a dirty home and a messy one. Whoa! You read that right. It is ok to have a messy home when you have kids.  Tackle dirt and grime. Combat that right away. But cut yourself a break when it comes to picking up all the mess.  Micro managing the messy will drive you crazy and is a big time waster. Instead, accept the mess as a fun sign of love and life, and teach your children to help pick up after themselves.
  3. Make time for yourself. In the middle of chaos, make time to treat yourself to a little alone time. You must take care of yourself so you can be there for your family and business team. Treat yourself to a book, walk outside (totally unplugged!), a mani/pedi… think of the little things you enjoy and schedule them.
