Dream a little dream with me….

So today every one is celebrating Martin Luther King Day even though his birthday is actually tomorrow.  But alas it is here. I like celebrating MLK day simply because for me, it is a reminder to never give up on your dreams. Honestly, I get so bogged down with life, with the stress of it all, it is easyimages Dream a little dream with me.... for me to forget my dreams, seriously.

I remember when I was much younger, in middle school or high school when everyone starts asking you "what do you want to be when you grow up". I wasn't sure what exactly I would be, but I knew I would be successful. I actually remember thinking, "this is what success looks like".  I would have this dream I would be some kind of executive, powerful woman, sitting on the penthouse level level of some tall building in some big city… I remember seeing the lights of the city below, the furniture was contemporary, the place was laid out. I think I was a lawyer or something like that.

Then life happens.

And slowly that dream fades….

Not sure how it happened….

…. as I sit here, I think back upon my years… and I realize I lived my dream.  You see, my dream wasn't about being a lawyer, but about being successful. To me, I knew I would be destined for success.  As I grew up, my definition of success has changed, it isn't about the penthouse and big city status, it is about setting out to do something and getting it done. It is about accomplishing goals. It is about being good at what I do….

Now in my 40s, I have a family and living on the beach, I work from home and I do pretty well at it. I'm successful and I'm living my dream.

Each day, I wake up with a sense of pride, accomplishment and I even think about my dream… my ongoing quest for more success. My dream hasn't changed, it has evolved. Success is defined more about my family now that just about me. Success may be going on vacation with my family, paying college fees, or being the best role model for my children.

What is your dream?  Have you given up on it? Are you living it? Do you dare to dream a little more of your dream?

Happy dreaming!
Donna
