How come my business doesn’t grow, when others do?
How can I keep my distributors and customers engaged?
How come I have to try so hard to keep everyone “going” in my business?
Why do people join my business, and then do NOTHING?
Those are common questions of a home based business. It can be quite frustrating at times. After 15 years in this industry, I still ask myself those questions every now and then…
I have been spending the last few months reading, watching videos, trying to absorb what has been referred to as “The Holy Grail of Momentum”. Now I’m not the first to come up with that title, I give credit to Tony Robbins. He was trying to answer some of those very questions. A quick refresher for some of you… The Holy Grail is usually referred to as the cup Jesus used at the Last Supper. It was the object of many treasure hunts, everyone wanted it…. it was thought to be the most cherished and valuable of all things…. So why call this the Holy Grail of Momentum? My guess is because when you understand it, it will be the most cherished and hold the most value to your business…. but I’ll let you decide. Tony just made it sound really cool.
He quickly demonstrated that those questions are not unique to the home business industry, but to basically everything in life. Talk about vague! Yeah, I know. But he was on to something…. and that prompted me to start really diving into this next few articles.
Basically the Holy Grail of Momentum, from here on out I’ll call it the HGM since it saves me a ton of time typing, is a concept that is continuously working for you or against you at all times. It is never constant. It is a moving, breathing philosophy that churns every moment of your life. That is the first part you must understand. The HGM is broken down into four parts, all worthy of their own blog post so be sure you sign up for my mailing list at the top of the blog to get the rest of the articles. One without the others will be useless!
The first part is Belief, next is Potential, third is Action and the last is Results. How do all these work synergistic with each other? How does this work for or against you? and how can you turn the tide if it is currently against you? All those will be answered.
Belief.
How is belief the root of the Holy Grail? Simple. Because everything you believe, good or bad, starts your process. For the sake of this entire explanation, I’m going to relate this to your business. But you can easily adjust this to your entire life circumstances.
The first step is to identify your beliefs. It isn’t as easy as it may sound, if you are completely honest. There are some industry trainers that have entire products devoted to identifying, building and changing your belief. It is a big business. That is because so many of us really think we know what we believe but until we get it out, form it and then finally own it, we may only have a glimmer of our true belief. So this is a basic exercise you can try. Sit with a pen and paper, or your laptop and just starting writing what you believe about your company. Here are a few questions that will form in writing a visual of your beliefs:
About your company:
- How does your company make you feel? Excited? Scared? Happy? Grateful? Nervous? Thrilled? Worried?
- Do you trust your company?
- Do you believe your company is working in your best interest?
- Do you believe your products/service do what you say they do?
- Do you believe people need or want your product/service?
- Do you use your own product/service?
You can do a similar exercise about your upline, your job, your own talents, your compensation plan. …. write it out, and be completely honest. The funny thing about belief, being dishonest won’t change how you really feel.
Now if you go back and read, you hopefully will see the starting form your true belief. Not the company jargon, or the effects of drinking kool-aid; but what really lies inside of you. NOW you have the choice to work on your belief if you don’t like what you see, you have the power to change it… remember belief is part of a constant moving philosophy because it is also constant. Belief also moves, breathes and grows.
So why does this belief become the root of the HGM? Because everything you do, your actions, your reactions… all rise and stem and work to fortify your beliefs. If you have negative beliefs about something, your actions and reactions will prove your belief right. And in the same law, if you have positive beliefs about something, your actions and reactions will prove your belief right.
Your belief (also commonly called your mindset) is so powerful…. thousands of books have been written on the subject of how to get your head on straight, hone your positive thinking and how to change your belief. My friend, John Milton Fogg, has an entire coaching session set on beliefs called Belief Busters.
I’ll paraphrase Napoleon Hill’s famous remark:
Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it ALWAYS achieves.
First understanding and identify what you believe will set the roadmap for the rest of the HGM to work.
Next, I’ll share my interpretation about the next part of the HGM… POTENTIAL. See you then!
